Hi, I’m Nina – Founder of GoMatcha

My love for matcha started long before GoMatcha was even a thought. I was 20 years old, a student at UCL, and completely burned out. Constant fatigue, lack of motivation, and zero energy were my reality. I was surviving on 4–5 cups of coffee a day just to get through essays and exams, but it wasn’t working. My body was sending me signals that something needed to change.

It all started with a decision to do a coffee cleanse – to reset and see if I could feel better. During this cleanse, I stumbled upon matcha completely by chance. A friend convinced me to try it at a local café, and I’ll never forget that first sip. It was four years ago, long before matcha became trendy in London, and I was lucky my first experience was perfect – ceremonial-grade matcha, traditionally prepared, smooth, and so delicious.

From that moment, everything changed. I started making matcha at home, learning about the grades, tools, and techniques. It became my daily ritual – something I looked forward to every morning. The energy I felt was unlike anything I’d ever experienced before. It wasn’t the jittery buzz I got from coffee, but a calm, sustained energy that helped me feel more in tune with my body and mind.

That simple ritual opened the door to something much bigger. I started exploring wellness in all its forms – reading books, listening to podcasts, and discovering how small changes could have such a profound impact. I began moving my body for the first time in years, finding joy in activities like pilates, yoga, and running. I was finally taking care of myself, and it all started with one small habit: drinking matcha.
